Our festival is a huge logistical exercise - BIFB’11 will comprise well over 100 separate events over multiple venues throughout Ballarat.

We require a raft of volunteers with a range of skill sets, ranging from admin staff, exhibition sitters, and hanging and logistics crews to organising committee personnel, interns and potential board members and management staff.

Being a part of the BIFB’11 crew will be a rewarding experience for our volunteers, and will provide an opportunity to develop skills and experience across a range of activities, providing  great socialising aspects as well as making an important contribution to arts and culture in Ballarat, and even more importantly, advancing the cause of Australian Photography.

AMBASSADORS

Our ambassadors for BIFB’11 are those volunteers who sit our Core Program exhibitions during the festival, or man our information centre in the Mining Exchange. They are the main interface between our shows and our audience.

To be a BIFB’11 ambassador you need to be outgoing, have good people skills, and  have a willingness to undertake a series of training sessions prior to the festival so you are knowledgeable about our Core program artists and their work.

LOGISTICS CREWS

The festival requires a number of volunteers who will work as a team preparing display infrastructure in the months leading up to the festival. Tasks will include carpentry, painting, print matting and framing and preparation of venues. In the week immediately prior to the festival opening we require teams to install and hang exhibitions as well as to de-install shows at the close of the  festival

We also require volunteers with food and beverage handling experience for exhibition launches and special functions throughout the festival.

for the week following the close of the festival to de-install exhibitions.

Hospitality volunteers are required to look after our international and interstate guests including arranging transport, airport transfers etc.etc.

ADMIN STAFF

We require administration volunteers to handle general office duties, including data entry, paperwork, telephone and during the festival. Admin volunteers need to have good telephone manner and computer skills [Mac]

ORGANISING COMMITTEES

The BIFB is run by the management team and a series of organising committees. Currently we have a Ballarat committee [meets monthly] whose main function is to source and survey venues for the Fringe program. The Melbourne committee [currently meets every 2 months but will meet monthly in 2011] undertakes a range of tasks including publicity, web development, sourcing funding and programming inputs. And a small Sydney based committee which is involved in marketing and PR and interstate programming inputs

INTERNS

The festival offers a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in arts and festival management. Interns must demonstrate a strong interest in, and a commitment to the festival, and will be mentored in key aspects of staging an international arts event by a dynamic management team. Interns are expected to commit to either two days per week on a part time basis, or full time for a two month festival lead-up period and a month during the running of the event.

THE BOARD

Board members are elected biennially at the Annual General Meeting following the festival and serve for two year appointments.

If you think you might be suitable for any of these volunteer positions, please give us a call at the BIFB office on 5331 4833, or send us an email with a short CV, noting your strengths and how you think you might fit as part of our BIFB team. We would love to hear from you.
