Volunteers are the life-blood of any not-for-profit organisation, and the BIFB is no different from any other such group. An event the size of BIFB’09 will require around 100 volunteers come festival time to help with the myriad tasks required to keep the festival running on a smooth path.  We require bump in crews to install the 20 Core Program exhibitions in the week leading up to the festival. We need volunteers to sit exhibitions in most of the Core Venues. We need people with good communication skills to man the info desk in the Mining Exchange. We need admin staff to help with a host of office tasks during the festival. We require hospitality volunteers to assist with catering and act as meet and greet  personnel at the various launch events. We need front of house staff for the projections and seminar series. We need transport captains to  do airport transfers and ferry international guests to  various BIFB events. We need runners and trouble shooters to deal with the many little unforseen crises that happen with an event of this size.  Of course being a BIFB’09 volunteer is not without its perks. Volunteers, subject to their commitment of hours, get BIFB clothing, free entry to seminars and projections, discounts on workshops, event registrations and BIFB’09 merchandise, plus a volunteer certificate, volunteer party invite on closing weekend, plus the chance to mingle with some fantastic international and Australian photographers.

The BIFB is an ongoing event. Our current agreement with the City of Ballarat is for festivals in 2011 and 2013, so we have the need for long term volunteers who have the commitment and energy to become involved on an organisational level, and contribute to the future direction of the BIFB. We currently have organising committees in Trentham, Ballarat, Melbourne and Sydney. If  you would like to join one of these groups, call the office on 5331 4833 for details.

Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2009 represents both photographers and the photography audience in general.  We are a not-for-profit organisation that involves volunteers in our work. We adhere to the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement in Not-for-profit Organisations and comply with the Australian definition, principles and model code of practice for involving volunteers.
