BIFB’09 offers a huge range of special one off events throughout the month. As well as those events listed below, most of the core program artists who are attending will present a range of artist floor talks and meet the artist sessions to accompany their shows. BIFB’09 is also offering supervised artist/curator floor talks for school groups midweek during the first two weeks of the Biennale. As well as the major launches associated with the Core Program, some fringe shows are having launches of their exhibitions throughout the festival period.

Seventeen highly respected reviewers from across Australia and the world, including curators, gallery directors, and festival directors offer feedback and advice to photographers seeking comment on their folios in 20 minute, one on one interviews. MAPping BALLARAT LAUNCH

BIFB’09 FESTIVAL LAUNCH

THE GALERIA BEZDOMNA

The Galeria Bezdomna / Homeless Gallery is an open entry photographic exhibition which was born in Poland in 2003.
Since then , more than 60 editions of the gallery have happened worldwide. Galeria Bezdomna is totally open entry. Anyone can turn up on opening day with their photographic works and their tools, find a vacant space and hang their own impromtu exhibition. The only conditions of entry are : 1. Participants must conform to any restrictions imposed on
hanging methods [Andersons Mill is on the historic buildings register] 2. Must fill in an indemnity form. 3. Can only enter on ‘hanging day’. 4. Must not remove works until ‘closing day’. If you missed the closing deadline for fringe exhibition registration, this is your one remaining chance to become an exhibiting artist at BIFB’09. more............

A display of photographic monographs and artist books by some of Australia’s most revered photographers and emerging bright lights on the Australian photographic scene. Show curated by Juno Gemes.
Photography publications are an essential part of the photography world. We know the work of great photographers throughout the history of photography mainly through publications. Viewing a photographer’s life work in publication is an intimate experience. It is through this experience of primary images that we educate our eyes and minds into the specific visual language of each photographer.

Launch of the exhibitions at the Gold Museum followed by a seminar presentation on Argentine Photography by Elda Harrington, Director of Encuentros Abiertos [the BIFB equivalent in Buenos Aires] and director of the Argentine School of Photography since 1987. She is also the president of Luz Austral Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting photography in Argentina. Ms. Harrington is an international curator and an independent photographer.
