BIFB’09 is the third festival put together by this team - the first two as the Daylesford Foto Biennale in 2005 and 2007, and this time around sees the festival move down the Midland Highway to Ballarat.

The inaugural DFB’05 presented a total of around 60 events in and around Daylesford, in the Central Victorian Highlands  Hepburn Shire.

2007 saw the expansion of the festival into the smaller townships and hamlets of the Hepburn Shire, and saw an increase in international representation from 2 shows in 2005 to 5, and a grand total of 134 events.

Not surprisingly, this exponential growth has seen us outgrow the capacity of the Hepburn Shire to provide the venues and volunteers needed to keep us on an upward trajectory, and necessitated the move to the much larger population base of Ballarat. The move provides the necessary infrastructure to help us build what is fast becoming the most important photographic event in Australia.

But of course we don’t say goodbye completely to the Hepburn Shire, as both Daylesford and Trentham will stage a full program of Fringe events as part of BIFB’09
