LA TROBE UNIVERSITY PHOTOGRAPHY / Fact or Fiction?

Novotel Forest Resort

open daily  9am -  6 pm

Free entry

Disabled access

Bendigo La Trobe University Year Three Photography students have definitely come a long way during their artistic journey, exploring many different techniques and styles in photography. There latest exhibition, "Fact or Fiction?" showcases this year's finest works requiring the viewers to decide if the photographs produced are true or false. Whether it is a ghostly figure on a vintage train, the recreation of a 15th Century Vermeer or the documentation of events in history - you, the audience have to decide what the photograph is really about; is it real or is it fantasy?

KARA RASMANIS / Unlocking the secrets of flight

The Elephant Patch

160 Albert Street, Creswick

Open 10 am – 6 pm Thursday to Saturday

Free entry

Unlocking the secrets of flight is a series of photogravure prints visually exploring the idea of simple fallen beauty

The wing collection started with a single moth wing, then the collection grew to include bees, butterflies and cicada. Even though the wings can no longer move their owners through the air Kara hopes to make the viewer soar with the simple beauty of the fallen object. The photogravure prints are the combination of traditional photographic and printmaking process and contemporary digital media that give a feel which would be unachievable using photography alone.

ANDREW THOMAS / Mullock

Creswick Woolen Mills

Railway Parade, Creswick

Open Daily 10 am – 5 pm

Free entry

Parking

Creswick’s rich mining past has supplied a myriad of photographic opportunities highlighted in this exhibition. The remains of the boom years of the late 1800’s are dotted around the countryside, creating a unique landscape all of their own. Little is left of the massive mining operations, with the towering mullock heaps a small testament to the scale of the search for gold. From the harshness of intense summer heat, to the beauty of the mid-winter colours this exhibition will perhaps provide a small insight into an often neglected vista.

LYNDEN NICHOLLS / Kitchens

31 Fraser Street, Clunes

Open  Weds to Sunday 10 am - 4 pm

Free entry

A voyeuristic journey visiting kitchens from around Victoria.   Kitchens are the womb of the home. They are a place of transformation. They have water, food and often company. A place of quiet repose as the kettle boils; a hubub of activity at meal times; a place to dump stuff, any stuff. They are noisy and smelly and hot and cold. You can taste an active kitchen. A quiet kitchen is full of potential. Secrets abound within drawers and on shelves whilst our lives spread out over flat surfaces. Messy or organized, sparse or cluttered, our kitchen reflects our soul.

ADDED SHOW

BILL BEATH / Beyond Photography - Art Beyond Infinity

The Timberbenders

Railway Parade, Creswick

Open Tuesday to Sunday 10 am - 5 pm

The rapid application of digital imaging to photography and other areas of the arts has unleashed the ability to take the creative process to new and previous unimaginable areas. The ability to mix the different areas of the arts, eg painting with photography, video with installation art, and in my case mathematics with photography (and as an art form in its own right) has allowed me to progress beyond photography and what is seen through and recorded by the lens, to images that are more conceptual and abstract and from the mind’s eye.
